Thus, the interior scenes, like the characters participating in the two expeditions, are totally imaginary. The truth about the exploration of the Titanic's interior is that no human being has ever entered the sunken ship. And now he's off in Nova Scotia, living among the stunted trees and frost heaves, where nobody - not even short - memoried editors - can reach him easily. Truth to tell, I don't remember if he sent in a manuscript through the mail first, or telephoned for an appointment to visit the office. Of the many books on the Titanic disaster I consulted for background material, by far the most valuable was Ballard's own The Discovery of the Titanic (Warner/Madison, 1987). Mac Plus, which made rewriting easier if not pleasurable. By the way, what was the name of that diver who was killed?" Well, Admiral, it's probably the best course, but let me talk to the CNO before I make a final decision. "Admiral, how about the next of kin for the other fellow who died? A similar letter might be in order." "Have someone in your office get me the names and address or addresses of his next of kin. "I've just come to New York and I read every issue of Analog and I'd like to come up and see what a science fiction magazine office looks like," they would invariably say. Many times young science fiction fans would come to Manhattan and phone me from Grand Central Station, which connected underground with the good old Graybar. His rider, who had yet to see her, rode unconcernedly through the meadowlands.Thomas "Speedy" Rice for valuable legal background on the rules of salvage.Ĭornell sensed the meeting was over and rose to leave. She heard the jingle of bit and bridle and the heavy snort of the big stallion. Sunlight glittered off the gold of his mount's trappings and painted the chestnut warhorse bright red. She grinned at him and shook her head as he tried to settle the horse- The creek bottom offered treacherous footing to any beast, and me warhorse had yet to find a comfortable spot, Finally his rider cursed again in exasperation and spurred him through the water onto the bank, where he stared down at her from the chestnut's great height. She grinned in devious anticipation and straightened in the deep grass, wiping water from her sun-browned skin.īy the gods, she whispered within her mind, he is prince of this land and comes to see me The warriors splashed into the creek, splattering her liberally. What have you been doing harvesting all the flowers? You are fair covered with them. The prince stared down at her quizzically, one tawny eyebrow rose. She was purpose-fully intent on her work, for if she allowed her thoughts to range freely she would be overtaken by the knowledge and the hope that he still might come. Stems and crushed blooms littered the coarse yellow gown she wore and damp earth stained the garment, but she paid it no mind. Carefully she twined purple summer flowers into her single dark brown braid, and dabbled bare feet in the rushing water. She sat by the creek, half-hidden in lush grasses. At his heavy belt was hung a massive two-handed broadsword. A flash of green and gold glittering at his left shoulder caught her eye: the emerald cloak-brooch he favored. He wore black hunting leathers, she saw, and had thrown a thin green woolen mantle back from broad shoulders. His tawny-dark head was bent as he rode blue eyes on the shedding of his gloves. He grinned- More like a wood nymph, I would say. I did not say you presented an unattractive sight, Alix. If she allowed him to see it she would be no different from anyone else to him, and therefore of no account. She felt the familiar leap of excitement, anticipation and wonder within her breast, and quickly tried to dismiss it. She drew her knees up and clasped her arms around them, resting her chin on their tops. I did not think you would come, she said, pitching her voice to carry over the noisy horse. Then her attention was caught by an approaching rider, and she let fall the flowered braid from limp fingers. OLD WEST - DAY A train races across the desert. By the time he built the 2nd pinball machine he was a pro! Also my son needed an extra hand for coordination when attaching the tray the first time. If you have a child building the pinball machine you may want an adult to double check that the rivets are snapped in as much as possible as they can be a little difficult. There are actually two different play boards included that fit down onto the top of the pinball machine which is nice because you can change up the obstacles and features on your pinball game. We’ve actually never owned a pinball machine (have you?) so we were all pretty excited! You can see here that he is almost done building the first pinball machine. The entire pinball machine is made of 39 die-cuts that you just pop out of the cardboard sheets. Because we just recently received it and my kids are in school this week they haven’t had the chance to decorate it yet but that’s what their holiday break is for!! I couldn’t believe how eager my son was to get his hands on this set since building sets for him are a take it or leave it kind of thing. Plus it includes the marbles, rivets, paper clip and rubber bands that you’ll need. The kit includes EVERYTHING – ALL of the cardboard sheets that are perforated to punch out and even graphics that you can cut out and color. The tutorial is about an hour long and after the first pinball machine was built my son didn’t even need to watch the tutorial again. It leaves absolutely no questions and you can see everything built along with you. My 10 year old son on the left built two of these Pinbox 3000 sets ALL by himself! Directions are included in the box but I HIGHLY recommend you just watch the tutorial on their website. I spotted their booth when I attended ChiTAG this year (Chicago Toy & Game Fair) and I totally geeked out when I saw how COOL this product was! NOT ONLY do you buy a cool pinball machine that is totally customizable because you design it yourself but you actually BUILD it too! And it is NOT complicated to build! And YES – it is made from cardboard and it REALLY works! (and well too!) AND….well, just keep reading. Out of everything we’ve reviewed, probably ever, Pinbox 3000 absolutely tops our list. Say we now we also have an n-m relationship between projects and companies. How would we do two joins (on different variables)? Now, the question becomes on how you can do multiple joins. One for the left side and one for the right side. I guess we can get the other variants by starting two scans. This looks good, but it essentially implements a full outer join. Version 1.0 - Fixed cheat sheet and minor typos. If you right click on the image below and select "Save Target As.", you will download the full size image. I've also created a cheat sheet that you can print out if needed. You can visit the Wikipedia article for more info here (however, the entry is not graphical). Note on the OUTER JOIN that the inner joined records are returned first, followed by the right joined records, and then finally the left joined records (at least, that's how my Microsoft SQL Server did it this, of course, is without using any ORDER BY statement). This query will return all of the records in the left table (table A) that have a matching record in the right table (table B). This is the simplest, most understood Join and is the most common. Some may argue that 5, 6, and 7 are not really joining the two tables, but for simplicity, I will still refer to these as Joins because you use a SQL Join in each of these queries (but exclude some records with a WHERE clause). The seven Joins I will discuss are shown below:įor the sake of this article, I'll refer to 5, 6, and 7 as LEFT EXCLUDING JOIN, RIGHT EXCLUDING JOIN, and OUTER EXCLUDING JOIN, respectively. I will be excluding cross Joins and self referencing Joins. I am going to discuss seven different ways you can return data from two relational tables. So, I decided to create my own and write an article about it. Some had good diagrams but lacked completeness (they didn't have all the possible JOINs), and some were just plain terrible. I looked all over the Internet for a good graphical representation of SQL JOINs, but I couldn't find any to my liking. Things seem to make more sense as a picture. Oh really? A snack bag of Chex Mix Cheddar has 3.5 servings and contains 120 calories per serving. Snack Attack: Look, Ma! I got Chex Mix because it’s healthier than potato chips! You’re getting healthy doses of protein and calcium, with fewer calories - 140 for the entire container - and a pineapple taste. So, what could you have instead? Chobani 2% fat Greek yogurt with pineapple. Dried fruit of any kind can be easy to overeat. How’s that for perspective?ĭried fruit is great because of its fiber content, but it has more calories than fresh fruit and the serving sizes are pretty small. In runner talk, that is nearly the equivalent of running the Broad Street Run. I am sure they are, but did you know the entire container at Wawa holds six servings? Each serving has 140 calories, which gives you a total of 840 calories if you eat the entire package (which you know you do). Snack Attack: Mmmm, dried pineapple chunks are my jam. So before you hit the shiny new Center City Wawa store on your lunch break, read on to find out whether your go-to snacks are worth it - or not. Diet is about balance, after all.īut my goal with this post is to save you from sneaky calories hiding in places you wouldn’t expect, and to show you that small tweaks to your snacking regimen can add up to big savings in the calorie department. In my opinion, you should be allowed to enjoy what you eat, whether your indulgence is a few spoonfuls of peanut butter or a basket of crab fries. The other 20 percent, look, I don’t even want to know. Keep in mind, though, that I’m a big proponent of the 80/20 rule: 80 percent of the time, behave. My hope is to point you in the direction of grab-and-go snacks that might be better alternatives when you’re craving something salty or sweet. So I decided to hit up a Wawa and play the game myself, all for your benefit, dear reader. Wawa is one of our favorite places to play this game there are just so many snacks to choose from. (And yes, I’m certain we sound really annoying to the person standing there in line with an 800 calorie snack that we just completely ruined for them. It’s called: “How Many Calories Are in This?” It’s exactly what it sounds like: We’ll stand there guessing the calorie counts of some of the most popular snack foods, and often find ourselves shocked at how many calories some items contain. My foodie friends and I like to play a game whenever we go to a convenience store. It’s quite pigmented which I think would make it work on various depths of skin tone. It blends pretty nicely and sets to a matte finish. I squeeze a little onto the back of my hand and then am able to pat just a tiny amount onto my cheeks and lips. It comes in a tube and is sort of thick when you squeeze it out. It can be used on both cheeks and lips which I love for a monotone look. I love a blush by I’m Meme and it’s called I’m Pep Balm in the shade 004 Corner. But I find it’s also pigmented enough to do a more intense look if I want. It’s a really nice cool toned neutral palette and would definitely be good for natural looks and just subtle defining of the eye. It was more pigmented than I expected it to be but still is very easy to work with. I also love the eyeshadow quad called Better Than Eyes Music Series in Dry Buckwheat Flower. The Juicy Lasting Tint in Almond Rose is an amazing shade. It’s one of my favorite cool palettes for an easy everyday look. It’s easy to work with because it’s not too pigmented compared to many western eyeshadow palettes I have. It’s quite muted which works really well on me. I don’t know if it would be good for medium skintone though. I am cool light muted and olive and I have been loving the Peripera All Take Mood eyeshadow palette in Muteful Rose. But if you want more recommendations or want to see swatches or something, feel free to DM me! I think those are all my recommendations for now, haha. But there are also some nice Korean mascaras I enjoy, for example MQNY Extreme Long & Curl Potencara waterproof. Mascara: My all-time favourite is by a Japanese brand again, it is Heroine make, Long & Curl waterproof mascara. It's a cream blush that looks like a beautiful natural flush on me. I don't know your hair colour, but some brow pencils that work for cool-toned dark brown hair are I'm Unny Styling Eyebrow 02 and IPKN Lively Slim Auto Eyebrow in shade 03 Gray Brown.īlush: There are lots of beautiful blushes by Korean brands, but my current favourite is Holika Holika Nudrop Lumi Cheek in shade 02 Dazzling Rose. Even when they have 'grey' in their name, they are often still too warm-toned for me. My favourite is the canmake creamy touch liner, which is Japanese again, but I have also enjoyed gel liners from brands like Bbia and Mcqueen.īrows: It is pretty hard to find cool-toned dark brown brow pencils for some reason. The Missha Dewy Glossy Eyes shadows are also very nice.Įyeliner: I love the Clio kill brown eyeliner, and I've loved basically every gel pencil eyeliner I have tried from Japanese and Korean brands. One of my favourites is the Holika Holika Piece shadow (?) In shade GSV01. As for single shadows, I love sheer sparkly shadows in neutral colours. The Play Tone eyes palette in the colour Nude Milk Tea is also nice for natural-ish looks (also by Etude House). It has perfect neutral and muted shades for me. And there are lots of other brands with great lip tints, too! I would totally recommend to go out and swatch some lip tints in store.Įyeshadow: I basically love all shadows I have from Korean brands, but my current favourite palette is Etude House Play color Eyes Autumn Closet. But there are a lot more options and they all shere out beautifully, so if you apply only a little bit, darker tints like Plum coke or dark Coconut can look natural, too. My favourites from Romand are the Juicy lasting tint in fig fig and Nucadamia. If a natural look is what you are going for, I absolutely recommend to buy sheer or glossy liptints and apply them as a gradient lip. Lips: I absolutely adore Korean liptints, especially from the brand Romand. That one is Korean, so it should be more readily available! It just looks like a natural shadow on me! A close second for me is the Bbia Last blush contour in the shade 11 pistacchio blossom. It is the canmake shading powder in the shade 04 Ice gray brown. I am a cool-toned and very muted olive.Ĭontour: my absolute holy grail contour is by canmake, which is a Japanese brand, but it might be available in Korea as well. I absolutely love k- and j-beauty products! Especially in recent years I feel like a lot of Korean brands have come out with lots of products that look great on my skin. Good sustainable food items are steak, cooked pork chop, bread, and pumpkin pie. One stack of 64 food items should be the minimum requirement for you to fight the Ender Dragon, but bringing more will definitely come in handy. Remember that the higher the difficulty of the game mode you are playing on, the more food items you will have to bring. Food: Bringing plenty of food items is critical in the Ender Dragon fight as you will be receiving a lot of damage from the Ender Dragon and the endermen. For your boots, the feather falling enchantment lessens your fall damage in case you might fall from one of the pillars of the end crystals. All of your armor equipment should also be equipped with the Protection IV enchantment or any of the protection enchantment variant such as projectile protection and blast protection. Protecting yourself with armor allows you to survive longer since the Ender Dragon can shoot dragon breath as it deals the fourth strongest direct attack of any mob in the game. Armor: Equipping yourself a full set of diamond or netherite armor is a must when fighting the Ender Dragon. But you can enchant crossbows with the Multishot enchantment as this greatly increases the crossbow’s hit rate especially when the Ender Dragon is flying. Unfortunately, crossbows cannot be enchanted with the Infinity enchantment and therefore, risk running out of arrows in the process. Crossbows have longer range than bows and these deal more damage. Crossbow: An alternative for the bow is the crossbow. This will come in handy when the Ender Dragon is flying as using a Power-enchanted bow will deal the most damage than using one without. This enchantment is the bow-alternative enchantment to a sword and the sharpness enchantment and thus, greatly increases the bow’s base attack damage. Another enchantment that you should equip on your bow is the power enchantment. However, if you do not have the infinity enchantment on your bow, the next best thing you should do is to bring at least 3 stacks of 64 arrows. And for the Ender Dragon, an Infinity-enchanted bow should not be optional. One of the best enchantments a bow can have is the infinity enchantment as this enchantment allows you to shoot a single arrow unlimitedly. The bow does not have any weapon tier unlike the sword and the axe, so, therefore, you should make use of its enchanting capabilities instead. Bow: The bow is your secondary weapon and when fighting a flying mob like the Ender Dragon, bows are a must-have.Take note the axe is optional as axes have a slower recovery rate than swords. If you plan on bringing an axe with you, make sure it is either a diamond or a netherite axe as these two weapon tiers have the highest base attack damage in the game. Axes are melee weapons that deal just as much damage to enemies as a sword, if not more. Axe: Another weapon alternative to the sword is an axe.You should also enchant your sword with the sharpness V enchantment as it greatly increases your sword’s base attack damage. The sword will be used to attack the Ender Dragon once it lands on its perch since it becomes immune to ranged attacks during this time, and it can also be used to defend yourself against endermen attacks as they tend to swarm a player once provoked. You should have a diamond or netherite sword when fighting the Ender Dragon as these two sword tiers deal the strongest damage. Sword: The sword is your primary weapon and should be brought with you at all times.Remember to make sure that you are adequately equipped with the right gear before jumping into the end portal, as the only way back is to either defeat the Ender Dragon or die. However, bringing them will make your fight substantially easier. Note that not all of these items are required. We have listed a few items as must-haves when attempting to kill the Ender Dragon. To defeat the Ender Dragon successfully and live to tell the tale, you will first need to equip proper gear to protect yourself. Here is the first rule of pitching: never, everleave anything behind. So don't worry about synopses instead, spend your time getting good at pitching both verbally and in writing.įinally, the treatment. It's much less about the details than about the sizzle. It's about telling them this is so cool and then this is even cooler and then, Surprise!, this is the coolest of all. It's not about telling them this happens then this happens then this happens. A synopsis encapsulates a story a pitch is designed to sell it. What they want for you to send them is a written pitch, as opposed to a verbal pitch. Now, sometimes people ask you to send a synopsis of your movie for them to consider producing, but that's not really what they mean. You will never need to write a synopsis, so don't sweat it. But that kind of personal outline can be informal, messy, or even incomprehensible to outside eyes, because you're the only one who'll ever read it. On the other hand, I personally think an outline is invaluable as a writing tool it gives you a place to work out all the structural problems before you start writing dialogue. If you don't use an outline when you write, there's plenty of time to learn how to do one after you've sold your pitch. When the time comes you'll need to do it, but you don't ever need to turn one in without a prior written agreement and a forthcoming check. It's a tool to help you write the film or the TV episode and (crucially) it's a step for which you get paid. Get good at this, because you do it a lot.Īn outline is something you do once you've been hired to write the film or the TV episode. You're taking a little bit of info and trying to convince someone else that a really great experience will follow. Every time you try to convince a friend or spouse to see a movie or TV show with you, given what you've seen in the trailer or read in TV Guide, you're pitching. Here's the thing about pitching: we do it all the time. Be able to tell the story with enthusiasm, complete with a beginning, a middle, and an end. In other words, know who the main character is, what he or she wants, and what stands in the way. You aren't expected to have all the details of every story worked out, but you should have all the main points covered. You come in to a meeting with a minimum of three story ideas you don't want to have just one idea, because they might already have something like it in development. Pitches, outlines, synopses, and treatments are all useful for different purposes and in different ways.Īs a freelance writer in film or in television, you will be expected to pitch.
